LuchhraJ
E ~eanrve Dinrun
hLChael U. Lung
Dh„.on D„r~~~„
The Division of Minerals and Geology received the proposed regrading and channel
reconstruction maps submitted by Terra Matrix as required under NOV C-95-023. This
letter is to reiterate our phone conversation of January 22, 1996 regarding the proposed
plan.
In general, the proposed drainage in the B Pit titled, upper 006-NE-2, appears to
approximate the previous location of the drainage. The new drainage meanders through the
B Pit, as opposed to the current straight channel configuration. The Division has a few
items that Seneca and Terra Matrix should clarify in the submittal of the technical revision;
1. The Existing New Channel 2 (upper portion) does not approximate [he original
drainage configuration. In the pre-mining map, this section of ditch does not appear.
The Division questions whether this upper portion of channel is necessary. It this
channel is necessary, the revision should include design specifics which consider the
revised topography.
2. The Proposed Upper 006-NE-2 Channel and Existing New Channel 1 meet in the
location of a topsoil pile. Ideally, this topsoil pile should be utilized prior to
construction of the lower portion of this channel, to avoid a temporary diversion
ditch. The map indicates that the 006-NE-2 channel will be routed to the east of the
topsoil pile. It appears that routing the channel to the west of the topsoil pile as a
temporary measure would be more stable in the long run. The pre-mining map also
depicts the two outfalls as separate and not joining before they enter the lower
