will be sold from this activity throughout the yeaz, although little is expected to be sold in winter <br />months. The operator will not have night gravel mining operations, although minor truck activity <br />or repairs may occur after hours. Mining, processing and trucking will take place in two shifts <br />per day (up to 18 hours total), 7 days per week, although many periods will see much less <br />activity. Activity is entirely dependant upon contract awards, etc. <br />i~ <br />S. Mesa County Impacts and Environmental Impacts <br />The current mining operation is planned on a site that is planned or industrial use by the town of <br />Fruita and Mesa County. The major surrounding uses are industrial as well. Since the permit azea <br />land is zoned AFT (agriculture, forestry, traditional}, a special use permit is needed to conduct <br />gravel mining on this site. <br />The average total aggregate annual production is given as 600,000 tons per yeaz. Occasional big <br />jobs such as a lazge Interstate repaving project, etc., may exceed these averages but other periods <br />of low demand will see less activity, so the average is appropriate for estimating log-term truck <br />traffic. Using this amount, the site will average trucking 50,000 tons/month. Using 25 <br />days/month activity this is 2000 tons per day. Using 10 hrs/day, this is 200 tons per hour. With <br />24 tons trucks, this is 8.33 trucks per hour. Maximum truck traffic is expected to be 9-10 trucks <br />per hour. All trucks will be covered and water and/or magnesium chloride will be applied to the <br />site access road as needed to keep dust down. United is working with the State Highway <br />Department in addressing all concerns for access to Highway 50 and the town of Fruita. It is <br />estimated that 90% of the trucks will go east to Fruita and will remain on the frontage road to the <br />western edge of Grand Junction, where the trucks will proceed south on the River Road to <br />United's main facility located a short distance south of the Interstate frontage road. The vast <br />majority of trucks will not enter I-70 at Fruita. Some traffic (approx. 10%) will proceed west on <br />Highway 50. <br />As described in the Exhibit G: Part 1, the hydrological system will detain all runoff so that no <br />sediment will leave the site and cloud any downstream waters.
