The application cannot be approved until the few remaining adequacy comments are
addressed. Please submit a complete response to this adequacy review as soon as possible, but no
later than February 11, 2004 so the decision due date set for February 12, 2004 can be met.
ADEQUACY ISSUES -Remaining after the second adeguacy review
1 . The Exhibit C Sheet 1 of 5 map aerial photograph is a good base map to visually locate different
vegetative types. However, identification of the vegetative types, from the photo is difficult.
Please delineate the boundaries of, and specify the vegetative community types in the
amendment area. ie: grassland, shrubland, wetland /riparian, and woodland /forest
communities. If possible, provide more specific identification such as sagebrush shrubland,
mixed-mountain shrubland, bunchgrass grassland or pinyon-juniper woodland.
Exhibit G -Water Information
2. Please provide an engineering demonstration that verifies the embankment to the north of
the pit will remain stable with a sediment pond located on the crest of the slope, potentially
leading to intermittent saturated conditions in this embankment. Otherwise, please propose
an alternate location for the pond and associated drainage ditches that is an adequate
distance from the embankment that infiltration of water from the pond will not affect the
embankment stability. Sizing details must be calculated to demonstrate the pond is adequate
to hold and store the 10 year - 24 hour storm event safely or must include an outlet or
discharge conveyance structures.
Exhibit J -Vegetation Information
3. Please provide estimates of cover and height of the vegetative life forms found on the
proposed new affected area of the upper terrace and the north-facing slope.
Exhibit O -Proof of Mailing of Notice to Countv Commissioners and the Soil Conservation District
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
