_ ... ::~.? order to meet requirements for Commercial Haulage will be identified for ..
• - ~ Reclamation Permit inclusion. However, no reclamation work after cessation of
- mining operations is anticipated, therefore, minimum bonding requirements
should be necessary.
18. Further discussions with the local Forest Service Minerals Officer, Chris Welker,
have resulting in agreement on a number of issues concerning FS Road 228
within the mine operation boundaries, including:
a It is in the best interest of Colorado Marble, Inc., The Forest Service, and
the public to re-locate FS 228 so that access to FS 228 above the mine site
can be continued without moving through the active mining area.
b. The permanent relocation of FS 228 entails an environmental and
engineering study beyond the scope of this permit amendment and will be
better served to delay the proposed permanent re-location for 3-5 years.
c. The crossing of Taylor Gulch at its present hxation is not compatible with
sediment control efforts at this time. Moreover, the roadway east of the
crossing simply loops back to Taylor Basin directly above the mine site
and continues up the slope on the western flank of Taylor Basin.
d. A temporary roadway access for public use will be integrated iffio the
mine plan, as shown on the Mine Plan Map, to facilitate public access to
FS Road 228 through the mine operation, as has been the case for the past
twenty years, until the permanent road re-location can be identified,
studied, engineered, and approved by the Forest Service for submittal to
DMG as a permit amendment.
e. The temporary mad access will follow the inter-mine area ramp along the
eastern sediment berm from the southern main staging azea north along the
berm to the northern end of existing distertb®ce, where the road will be
re-opened to allow for access to FS Road 228 above the presently
disturbed area This access mad is shown on the Mine Plan Map Cc,
19. It is requested that the road re-location as shown on the initial Mine Plan Map Cc
submittal be removed from DMG consideration until the pest road re-
location can be agreed upon A notarized letter from the Forest Service agreeing
to tbe temporary road re-location within the mining area will be sent to DMG.
Design criteria for the access road will be one and the same as the mine road
(same structure). The roadway will be a miaiarrmm of 16' wide, up to 15% grade,
with drainage ditches constructed along each side. "V" type ditches will be
constructed 3' deep, 6' wide, with app. 2:1 slope along roadway edge and 3:1
slope of ditch along outer edge. Please refer to typical cross section of in mine
roadway included in this mailing-
20. Colorado agrees that the existing road crossing at Taylor Gulch is not necessary
given an alternative access to FS Road 228 above the mining area. Therefore, it is
proposed to continue the five foot minimum berm height across the existing road
and post the crossing as closed The roadway ~ the far side of Taylor Gulch
will be reclaimed along the former road cut on US Lime property.
