i
This is a list of Nalco, Inc.'s operations and previous compliance problems,
if any.
73-15 "Chapel Hills Pit" 60.0 A
Succession of operator approved: December, 1984.
71-23 "Gunnison Ready-mix Pit" 79.91 A
Never Inspected.
77-222 "Rocky Ford South Pit" 135.91 A
Mark Loye's November 10, 1981 Inspection Report revealed that
only a "few hundred"cubic yards of topsoil was salvaged for use in
reclamation, and that an adequate plan for topsoil replacement
would waive Board consideration of a possible violation.
Nalco responded that more than a few hundred yards of topsoil
were on site.
No further action was taken.
77-223 "Wiley Pit" 86.61 A
No problems.
77-572 "Lamar East Pit" 77.85 A
Mark Loye's November 10, 1981 Inspection Report revealed
that little or no topsoil was stockpiled for reclamation purposes.
Mr. Loye was informed by an on-site Nalco employee that topsoil
is customarily sold, and not stockpiled.
The 1983 Annual Report stated that 19,000 cubic yards were
stockpiled to adequately meet the estimated topsoil replacement
volume (14,000 cy).
77-573 "Pueblo West Pit" 177.71 A
No problems.
77-579 "Canon City East Pit" 32.6 A
The 1978-1980 Annual Reports revealed that 8.47 A were backfilled
and topsoiled, but were not revegetated (as of February 20, 1985).
This is contrary to the permit provision: "Nalco plans to attempt
complete grading, reshaping, seeding, mulching, fertilizing, and
planting of seedling trees within one year of completion of each
mining stage."
After having spoken with Nalco employee Ed Steward, I was informed
that seeding had occurred on all backfilled and topsoiled slopes
in April, 1985.
77-560 "Rocky Ford East Pit" 40.38 A.
No Problems.
78-281 "Nader Pit" 60.0 A.
No problems. Succession of operator was approved in December, 1984.
