Loveland Ready Mix Concrete, Inc. <br />Permit No. M-1974-069 <br />Page 5 of 5 <br />Barnes Ditch and the Big Thompson River, means that the site may generally be acting as <br />a sink for Russian olive seed. <br />Loveland Ready Mix Concrete, Inc., is actively engaged in a program to eradicate <br />Russian olive trees on the Larimer Pit site. <br />The current Russian olive control program involves annual, or more frequent, informal <br />inventory of the Russian olive population on the permit site. Based on this inventory, <br />azeas of the site are selected for thinning. Thinned Russian olives aze removed from the <br />site and transported to a location where the plant may be destroyed (e.g., burned) or will <br />desiccate and decay without risk of propagation. The remaining stumps aze then treated <br />with Tordon or similaz herbicide to discourage new vegetative growth. Stumps may be <br />serially defoliated and treated to ensure the effectiveness of eradication. The use of <br />amino acid inhibitors and other vaned chemical treatments may be indicated where root <br />growth is specifically tazgeted. <br />Containment is monitored through the inventory process, and may also be verified <br />through aerial photography and other mapping. <br />By design or through active management, certain chazacteristics of the reclaimed azeas of <br />the permit azea inhibit the spread of Russian olive plants. For example, soil disturbance in <br />the presently reclaimed areas is limited, with mining and stockpiling activities substantially <br />removed from the shoreline Russian olive population. Moreover, existing grassland <br />vegetation suppresses the infestation potential in areas immediately surrounding the current <br />Russian olive population. Generally, the water budget in areas subject to grassland <br />reclamation is not sufficient to support Russian olive plants. Finally, the existing <br />groundwater lakes are hydrologically isolated from other surface waters, and the potential <br />for seed transport is limited. <br />6.4.12 EXHIBIT L -Reclamation Costs <br />1 I.0 See revised Exhibit L attached. <br />
