Mr. Ben Urbonas
AE: Bull Seep Task Fora:
Dear Ben,
i
At the August 8, 200] Bull Seep Task Force meeting, [wo alternsuves w'txc prescmed by ICOiY
Engineering [o handle Firsl Creek !lows in the Bull Seep. These alternatives can be summarized
u Collows:
1. Alternative 1 wit! consist of a spillway that will discharge First Creek flood flows from
the Howe-Haller Reservoir into the Bull Seep Slouch The Slough would be irnp[o~zd
between the spillway and Ne South Plane River to have a capacity of approximately 4800
cfs.
2. Alternative 2 will consist of routing First Creek Bood flows through Denver Water and
South Adams County Watu~ and Sani[auon District's (South Adams) gravel pi[ reservoir
complex, so thaz a wilt discharge direcdy to u[e South Platte River. Tne Dull Seep
channel would be lmprovcd [o carry approximaely 200 ds ("nuisance) flows from Fast
Creek
Denver Water and Suu[h Adams have the following initial comments on these [wo dtsign
options: i
1. Denver Water and South Adams purchased [hc Howe Haller site subjett [o the continuing
obligation of Afobi]e Premix Concrete (now Lafarge) to complem the coastruction of two
raw wattx racrvoirs. Thar mastrucDDn is [o be completed in accordance with the
approved~ralarttazion plan and the requaemcnts of the State Engineer. Compliance
issues azeI a [na¢er bawee¢ Lafarge, the Division of yfinaals and Gwlogy (DMG) and
others. Ag the landowTer, however, we would like to review proposeA changes [o the site
plan
2. Denver ~a[Cf and South Adams also purchased the adjacent Hazeltine gravel pit for
water storage purposes. Our future plans include installing a slurry wall along the west
side of uu: Ha2Utinc pie, a portion of which will run parallel to the Bull Seep Slough.
The Slouch and i[s banks should be stabilized [o prevent erosion. We arc concerned !hat
arosion could lead to bank failures that compromise the inregriry of the slurry wall.
CONSEZVE
C:\W INDOW S\TEMP\a-29 meel,np tloc
