In conclusion, we believe the current plan addresses the hydrologic concerns of the river
as well as the concerns of the landowners. It should be emphasized that this amendment is
only for lake mining. The river mining is approved with the DMG and the County but
must be renewed with the COE. We urge the residents to read the plan thoroughly. We
have spent considerable time and expense in making this permit sensitive to the concerns
mentioned in the letters and we plan on spending large sums of money on the jetty, the
embankment concrete, the erosion lining, the topsoiling and vegetation in order to make
the plan solid.
Also, please emphasize to the residents that problems associated with the river mining
years ago were the result of a lack of understanding the river processes. These are now
better understood and the restrictions on mining coupled with the strict monitoring of
cross-sections will prevent any future problems. The upcoming revision to eliminate the
dike berm will further restore the river to a more natural condition. It is our intention to
work with neighbors and regulatory agencies to develop and environmentally sound
reclamation and sustainable mining plan for this area.
Thank you.
7
