1 For sometime, and during my tenure as the president of
2 this Board, I identified Williams Canyon as one of two priorities
' 3 in terms of preserving open space in the Colorado Springs region.
4 The other being, the Monument and Fountain Creeks which blow
5 right through the city.
6 So for a long time, I have recognized, really, the
'
7 exceptional value that that Canyon has to the community, not only
' 8 in terms of its past and current, but in terms of its value to
9 future generations.
' 10 The Palmer Foundation is in the business of preserving
11 open space and--and that's where my interest begun. I am also
'
12 the organizer and co-chairman of the Pike
s Peak Trail Coalition.
13 This is an organization that was started in May of 1987, and we
14 are in the business of promoting trail use.
' 15 And, again, we are--this is not--this coalition is
16 composed of 17 community organizations from the League of Women

I' 18 Chamber of Commerce. Its trails and quality of life ie. an
19 economic consideration, not just a recreational one.
' 20 And my involvement with all of these organizations has
21 had that perspective. I am also invalved with local elected

23 the hearings of the amendment oP the community concerned. I have
24 developed a lot of communications with elected officials and
' 25 citizens that are concerned with the issues involved.
