BECTION 9.0
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
,j
~!
9.1 EMERGENCY EQIIIPMENT

The plant is provided with the following emergency
equipment:
^ safety showers/eyewash stations,
^ Scott Airpak self-contained breathing apparatus,
^ cyanide antidote kits (amyl nitrite).
Refer to BMGC Safety Procedures for correct use of the
above.
9.2 STANDBY ELECTRICAL POWER SUPPLY
In the event of a general power failure, certa n equipment
can continue to operate, drawing power from he Standby
Electrical Power Supply. The following equipme t in the pH
Adjustment System can be run on standby power:
^ Fume Scrubber NaOH Metering Pumps (06-PP-37/38)
^ Fume Scrubber Recirculation Pump (04-PP-2 )
^ Fume Scrubber Extraction Fan (04-FA-O1)
^ pH Adjustment Tank Agitator (04-AG-09)
(runs intermittently for 15 minutes during leach 2-hour
period)
^ Selected heat tracing
^ Selected lighting and small power.
Normal procedure during a power failure would b to restart
all of the equipment in the pH Adjustment System except the
Sulfuric Acid Metering Pump, and run the syste until all
available cyanide in the pH Adjustment Tan has been
decomposed, stripped as HCN, and absorbed in t e scrubber.
Except for the agitator, the system may then b shut down.
The agitator continues to run for 15 minutes du ing each 2-
hour period, under the control of the PLC syst ~.
pj/1523rp 012591
