2. •
~F3.) continued
,.r--
The gasoline stored in the tank is the landowners personal
property to supply his automobile and garden tractor. The
location of the tank will remain in an undisturbed area.
4.) The waste rock material (fines) were located unneces-
sarily close to the drainageway. The problem was corrected
on the day of my visit as part of the site preparation for
the southern most detention pond. I was told today that the
last of the material (fines) has been removed from the site
entirely. Future development of fines will be stockpiled
somewhere within the stockpile storage area as shown on the
Mining Plan Map in such a manner to avoid migration to Red
Canyon creek. I am confident that the sedimentation ponds
will provide the necessary drainage control.
5.) As may be seen in the original mining plan narrative,
the steep slopes in Phase 1 are virtually denuded of any
topsoil material in the portion of the slope currently mined.
(Please remember this is a very old quarry which was operated
many years ago) There simply is no topsoil to be salvaged
at this time on the rocky outcropping. When the activity
shifts closer to the north boundary, topsoil material is to
be found in small pockets on the lower slope, Any such top-
soil material will be salvaged to the best of our ability on
such steep terrain, and stockpiled in the extreme northwest
corner of Phase 1 as shown on the Mining Plan Map. Please
see the Niining Plan narrative for more details.
6.) Please see the map for a better perspective of the
surface area actually disturbed. Based upon our actual
measurements of the original site (9.95 acres before conver-
sion to a 112, we estimate that not more than 8 to 9 acres
are disturbed. Two matters contribute to the appearance of
larger acreage. The first is the perspective from the low
ground that views the high and very steep rocky outcropping
as if it were laid out flat. From the top looking down one
can better visualize how compact the area really is. The
second problem is the fact that much of the recently dist-
urbance due to blasting can hardly be distinguished from
the area of old rubble and. rock fall caused by natural
erosion. The horizontal distances involved of current mining
activity were expanded primarily to include the location
of the truck scale and related parking.
I will be glad to meet you at the site for a more complete
review of the boundary or acreage questions if necessary.
Added comment: I plan to provide photographs of the correct-
ive action taken. The possible violations you observed were
caught and corrected in time to avoid serious damage to the
stream or streambed of this normally dry creek (my visit was
the first time I ever saw water cunning through the site)
S' cerely
cc: CSC Sand Company Donald A, Ra p
