Exhibit J
Vegetation Information
Vegetation at the Topaz Mine is very similar to other mines located within the Sunday Mine
Complex. Previous vegetation surveys within the Sunday Mine Complex identified two distinct
vegetative compositions for steep hillsides and valley floors. The surface facilities of the Topaz
Mine consist primarily of steep hillsides that blend into a gently sloping valley floor.
The steep hillsides are dominated by scattered pinyon andjuniper, measuring 4 to 8 feet high.
Vegetative coverage is estimated to be 16%, consisting of the following: ] 0%Pinyon-Juniper,
14% Small Sagebrush, 43% Grasses (including 60%Galleta, 39% Indian Ricegfass, and 1% Blue
Gramma), and 21% Russian Thistle, with the remaining 12% consisting of cactus, Yucca,
Snakeweed, and other miscellaneous forbs.
Vegetation on the valley floor predominantly consists of grasses with some scattered shrubs and
Juniper. Vegetative cover is estimated to be 15% consisting of the following: 51% Russian
Thistle, 34% Grasses (including 62% Galleta, 29% Blue Gramma, and 9% Indian Ricegrass), and
4% Snakeweed, with the remaining 11% consisting of Big Sagebrush, Juniper, Shadscale
Saltbush, Cactus, and other miscellaneous forbs.
OS-18-2007 Exhibit) Veg Info J-1
