G.1.2 Erosion and Sediment Control <br />Areas of potential erosion include the topsoil stockpile, the ore stockpiles, and the WRA slope. <br />The remaining areas aze relatively flat with low potential for erosion. The topsoil stockpile will <br />be temporazily seeded during the first fall planting season afrer the soil is stockpiled. Successive <br />efforts to provide a vegetative cover on the topsoil stockpile will be made until vegetation is <br />established comparable to the existing vegetation conditions in the area. Some erosion will occur <br />on the WRA slopes and the sides of the ore stockpiles as they will be in a state of continual <br />change and disturbance during operations. <br />The impact from erosion will be minimized by installing sediment control measures. Erosion <br />from the WRA and ore stockpile azea will be captured by earthen berms located at the crest and <br />toe of the WRA. The earthen berm at the toe of the WRA will direct runoff into a catchment, <br />which will be designed to discharge a 100-year, 24-hour storm event via an emergency overflow <br />spillway, located to the west of the catchment basin. Straw bale barriers may also be installed in <br />areas prone to erosion. Disturbed areas that are not expected to be disturbed for a significant <br />period of time will be temporarily or permanently seed, as required. . <br />G.1.3 Spill Prevention and Containment <br />Diesel fuel and oil will be stored on-site in tanks, drums, and smaller containers. The diesel fuel <br />above-ground storage tank, shown on Figures C-2 and C-4, will store approximately 1,000 <br />gallons of diesel fuel. Secondary containment is provided around the tank by use of an earthen <br />berm with a plastic liner to contain any fuel spills or leaks. The plastic liner will be covered with <br />a protective layer of soil and gravel. The berms will be established at the height necessary to <br />contain the total volume of the tank within the containment area plus an additional ten percent. <br />The fueling areas will be sloped so that any spills during equipment fueling or fuel deliveries <br />would be contained by the berm at the top of the WRA. <br />Up to 200 gallons of antifreeze and oil products (i.e., motor oil, hydraulic oil, crank case oil, gear <br />oil, and used oil) will be stored on the concrete floor of the maintenance shop, or within a plastic <br />and earth lined berm area outside of the shop. These products will typically be stored in smaller <br />tanks of less than 100 gallons, drums, and small containers. Any minor spills in the shop area <br />will be contained by use of absorption booms and sand.
