D.4.3 Proposed Surface Disturbances
Activities at the mine site will consist of extending the existing Topaz Mine workings. The
anticipated affected area will expand from the existing 10.0 acres of affected lands to 17.8 acres
of affected lands. An additional 12.2 acres of proposed future disturbance is also included in this
permit conversion for undefined areas of future disturbance located within the permit boundary.
This allows for a total permitted disturbed area of 30.0 acres. In addition, the waste rock pile will
be expanded approximately 200 feet to the north. New roads and vent holes will be installed; this
will include four vent holes in the first 3 years of operation (%<-acre disturbance for each) and
approximately 2.75 acres of disturbance for associated access roads. During the life of the mine,
Denison will determine additional locations for vent holes within the permit boundary. Figure C-
3shows the proposed locations of five new vent holes (T2 through T6. These are general areas
where the vent holes will be located; however exact locations cannot be specified since the
locations must be sited to intersect the mine workings in areas where ventilation is required.
An expansion of the WItA will be required at the Topaz Mine portal area to support mining
operations. Archeological and biological resource surveys, in support of the National
Environmental Policy Act Environmental Assessment (NEPA EA), have been conducted for
areas of existing surface disturbance, and reports of findings are currently being prepared.
Archeological and biological surveys for areas of proposed future surface disturbance are
currently being conducted. For future disturbances in undefined areas within the permit
boundary, cultural and biological surveys will be completed prior to any surface disturbance.
Figures C-3 and C-4 show the proposed future disturbance associated with the expansion of the
affected area and the vent holes and access roads. These proposed facilities include the
following:
• Proposed expanded WRA
• Proposed topsoil stockpile area
• Ore stockpile area (OSA)
• Proposed catchment
• Modified drainage channels
• Modified/relocated berms
• Mine access roads
• Solid waste container/roll-off
5-1g-2007 Exhibit D Mining Plan D-fi
