June 24, 2003 -13- 003-2203.7
• In August 2002, an approximate 200-foot section of LDF beneath the West PSSA End Berm was
installed that was coarser than specified. This material was reviewed by Golder and determined to be
suitable for that section.
2.4 Site Grading
Prior to SF placement, Ames conditioned and compacted the subgrade surface of the fill azea. Golder
monitored the preparation of the subgrade and verified that it met project specifications.
Ames gaded existing slopes and placed SF so that final slopes were no steeper than 2.SH:1V. Prior
to fill placement, the in-situ material was scarified to a depth of approximately 6 inches. SF was
compacted with a minimum of four passes by a smooth drum vibratory compactor.
Ames placed approximately 190,000 cubic yards of SF for site grading.
2.5 Subgrade Preparatiou
• Prior to SLF placement, Ames moisture conditioned and compacted the entire surface of [he
Phase Nb PSSA with a smooth drum vibratory compactor. The quality of the finished surface was
then maintained until SLF was placed.
2.6 Soil Liner Fill
Based on neat-line survey, Ames placed and compacted approximately 30,619 cubic yards of SLF in
the Phase Nb PSSA, Record Drawing No. 3 in Appendix A presents the as-built surface of the SLF.
Ames processed the SLF for the Phase Nb PSSA construction from August through December 2002.
Ames worked the borrow material through a custom designed rotary mill and screen to remove
oversized material from the SLF and to uniformly condition the material prior to stockpiling.
Ames began placing SLF in the Phase Nb PSSA in August 2002 and completed SLF placement in
May 2003. SLF was compacted to a minimum thickness of 12 inches by a smooth-drum vibratory
compactor. Golder observed SLF depth verification tests performed by Ames to confirm appropriate
fill depth. Any azeas that were found to be deficient in thickness were reworked and retested until the
is~oo~zzm~woo~+nKenP5sw06o3~0pJZZW.oi00.plwRep.aoa Golder Associates
