June 24,2003 -12- 003-2203.7
• Detail 1. Ames excavated the PU trench to the minimum dimensions, and placed geotextile and OF in
the trench. Ames placed SSF over the geotextile to a minimum depth of 6 inches. The PU geosynthetic
installation is discussed further in Section 3.1. Approximately 1,472 cubic yards of UF, 245 cubic yards
of SSF, and 53,000 square feet of geotextile were used to construct the PU. The PU is sloped at a
minimum of one percent from the PSSA sump area southward beyond the east end berm, and west from
the sump on the floor of the PSSA to the south of the west end berm extending into the Phase Nb OSA.
2.2.2 Secondary Underdrain
Ames constructed approximately 630 linear feet of SU in the Phase Nb PSSA. Record Drawing
No. 2 shows the location of the SU. The cross-sectional dimension of the SU was nominally 4 feet
wide by 2 feet deep, providing across-sectional azea of 8 square feet, as shown on IFC Drawing 13,
Detail 2. Ames excavated each SU trench to the minimum dimensions, and placed geotextile and OF in
the trench. Ames placed SSF over the geotextile to a minimum depth of 6 inches. The SU geosynthetic
installation is discussed further in Section 3.1. Approximately 186 cubic yards of UF, 47 cubic yards of
SSF, and 12,600 square feet of geotextile were used to construct the Secondary Underdrains.
• 2.3 Leak Detection System
Ames constructed approximately 2,740 linear feet of LDT in the Phase Nb PSSA, at the location
shown in Record Drawing No. 4.
IFC Drawing 14, Detail I shows a typical Leak Detection Trench Section. Ames excavated the trench
to a minimum 1-foot by 1-foot cross-sectional dimension, and a minimum one percent grade. Ames
placed geosynthetics, one 4-inch diameter perforated corrugated polyethylene (PCPE) pipe, and LDF
in the trench. Ames placed approximately 101.5 cubic yards of LDF, 8,220 square feet of 40-mil
smooth Low Linear Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) geomembrane, 13,700 square feet of 12-ounce
non-woven geotextile, and 2,740 linear feet of PCPE in the LDT. The LDT geosynthetics installation
is discussed further in Section 3.2.
The LDT trench crossed the SU four times. In these cases, the cross-section was constructed the
same as above, except the 40-mil LLDPE geomembrane was placed on the upgradient, bottom and
downgradient sides of the LDT as shown on Detail 1 of IFC Drawing No. 14.
•
z:~ooazoz~awo~r~ic~rtessaosw~ao3zzo3.oaoo.oonuRepao~ Golder Associates
