Mr. xent Gorham
November 16, 1994
Page 5
requirements, no monitoring omissians occurred daring 1993; three additional
water level, flora, and field parameter visits occurred in 1993. Zhe water
quality sample collected fx'cm this site was obtained in the fall whereas spring
sampling will be emphasized in the future. Spring sampling will be emphasized
because rnmierous sites within the permit area only flow in the spring and
typically dry up by fall.
Pond 89:
Pond 89 is located outside the potential subsidence zone. No mining which could
reasonably be expected to affect this pond had taken place prior to 1993. A
sufficient hydrology database consisting of flow, water level, field parameter,
and water quality information had been established priar to 1993 to define the
pre-mining hydrology at this location. During 1993, no new mining activities
with the potential of areatirg detectable impacts occlured in the vicinity of
Pond 89.
Chrrently this pond is required to be monitored quarterly for flows, field
parameters, and water levels; annually far water quality. As compared to current
requirements, no monitaring omissions oDCxrtred during 1993; three additional
water level, flow, and field parameter visits occurred in 1993. Zhe water
quality sample collected from this site was obtained in the fall whereas spring
sampling will be emphasized in the future. Spring sampling will be emphasized
because rnnnerous sites in the within the permit area only flow in the spring and
typically dry up by fall.
Pond 81:
Pond 81 overlies an area of the Fast mine inactive since 1983. No retreat mining
has occurred in the vicinity of Pond 81. A sufficient hydrology database
consisting of flow, water level, field parameter, and water quality information
had been established prior to 1993 to define the hydrology at this location.
During 1993, no new mining activities with the potential of creating detectable
impacts Doctored in the vicinity of Pond 81.
C~rently this pond i.s not *~,;*~ to be monitored further until one year prior
to reinitiating development of the East Mine. As o®~ared to current
requirements, no monitoring CHRiSSions OCCl117ed during 1993; three additional
water level, flaw, and field parameter visits occurred in 1993.
Pond 7-2:
Pond 7-2 lies north of an area of the Fast mine inactive since 1984 and outside
the subsidence zone. No retreat mining has occurred in the vicinity of Pond 7-2.
A sufficient hydrology database consisting of flow, water level, field parameter,
and water quality information had been established priar to 1993 to define the
hydrology at this location. Dicing 1993, no new mining activities with the
potential of creating detectable impacts oansred in the vicinity of Pond 7-2.
