Mr. Kent Gorham
Novemhar 16, 1994
Page 11
level, flora, aryl field parameter visits oaasred in 1993.
Surface Water Monitorira - Sorirws
Spring 30:
Advance mining in the vicinity of Spring 30 ocaured during May of 1993. No
retreat mining in the vicinity of Spring 30 ocaured during 1993. A sufficient
hydrology database consisting of flow, field parameter, aryl water quality
information had been established prior to 1993 to define the pre-mining hydrology
at this location. Monitaring of Spring 30 was initiated in May of 1993 and
wntirnred on a monthly basis throuc~r October.
Currently this spring is required to be monitored quarterly for flv+rs and field
parameters; annually far Water quality. AS compared to current requirements, no
monitoring omissions occtnred during 1993; three additional water level and field
parameter visits occurred in 1993. Zhe water quality sample collected from this
site was obtained in the fall whereas spring sampling will be emphasized in the
future. Spring sampling will be emphasized because rnmierous sites in the within
the permit area only flow in the sFsirg and typically dry up by fall.
Spring 10-50:
Monitoring of Spring 10-10 was not required to be initiated until Auqust 1993 in
accordance with the provisions of permit revision 03 which added this site to the
monitoring network. Monthly monitaring of flows aryl field parameters at this
location began in August and continued throtgYn October 1993.
Currently this spring is required to be monitoeed quarterly for flows and field
parameters; annually for water quality. As ow~ared to current requirements, no
monitoring omissions oaanred during 1993; one additional flaw and field
parameter visit Doan red in 1993. ire water quality sample collected from this
site was obtained in the fall whereas spring sampli.rg will be emphasized in the
future. Spring sampling will be emphasized because ntntwtrous sites in the within
the permit area only flow in the spring and typically dry up by fall.
Spring 31:
No minim took place In the vicinity of Spring 31 ar within the watershed that
feeds Spring 31 either priar to ar during 1993. A sufficient hydrology database
consisting of flow, field parameter, and water quality information had been
established priar to 1993 to define the pre-mining hydrology at this location.
Currently this spring is required to be monitored on a monthly basis for flows
and field nom,-a,~tA*-~ when accessible; quarterly far water quality. As compared
to the current requirements, one monitarirg ®n9 ~Giar oocisred dining 1993. 'Ihe
3rd quarter water quality sample was inadvertently overlooked. A water quality
sample was collected on October 6, just after the close of the third quarter.
