Typical Mesa soils are noncalcareous in <br />the srlace layer and in the upper part of the subsol, but locally they are weakly calcareous throughout <br />because they have been imgated with calcareous water. The grave) content o! the wbsoil ranges from 0 to <br />as much as 20 percent. In the substratum it ranges from 30 to 70 percent. <br />In many places mesa soils are adjacent to Mack soils. which lade ilia very gravelly and cobbly lower <br />subsoil and substratum typical d Mesa soils. Mesa soils resemble Hinman sills but have a coarser textured <br />subsoil. They dosety resemble Orchard soils, but their parent material, unlike that of Orchard soils, contain <br />little or no material derived from basalt or from ferromagnesian minerals. <br />In their natural slate Mesa soils support a good cover of galleta, Indian ncegrass, needleand-thread, blue <br />grams, and [prickly pear] cactus. tf irrigated highly productive and are wiled to most crops commonly grown <br />in the (Dares-mtonrrose) Area, <br />MESA CLAY LOAM (0% to 2 °~ slopes) Map Symbol "MIA" <br />This loll is on top of high mesas.
