Bettie Mountain Gold
., NOPV Abatement Requirements
page 2

include a schedule for implementation. Following approval of this
technical revision, BMG shall implement the treatment method n
accordance with the plan. Appropriate frequency and distribu ion of
monitoring of the tailings and plant circuit shall be propose within the
application and subsequently conducted to verify the progress and success
of the remedial treatment. Monitoring results, covered by an appropriate
cover letter report shall be submitted to the Division weekly during the
detoxification program.
BMG will be permitted to operate the processing plant, including the
introduction of unprocessed ore, until the projected tailings quality has
been achieved. At that point in time BMG will cease operatio of the
plant pending approval to recommence operation by the Divisio .
Monitoring of cyanide levels within the tailings slurry and liquid shall
continue to verify the anticipated decay of cyanide levels following the
cessation of the detoxification program, until cessation is approved by
the Division.
The introduction of chemical compounds into the processing cir uit to
affect an immediate remedy of the tailings cyanide problem could
potentially create additional problems by amending the chemical
constituency of the tailings. The Division cautions BMG that it will be
held responsible for any unanticipated results of its remedial actions.
Status: Partially Satisfied
- BMG submitted T.R. Application on April 3~ 1992. ~¢
-Division approved the T.R. on April 7, 19 2 with
three stipulations. One has been satisfi d.
(5) Leak Detection System Effluent Containment:
In the event that fluid is intercepted by the tailings fluid c 1lection
pond liner leak detection system, BMG shall design and impleme t an
automated system to minimize the development of hydraulic back pressure
within the leak detection system. This system is intended to educe the
likelihood of compromising the secondary clay liner by interce ting and
withdrawing leakage.
In the event that Cyanide is detected within the leak detectio system
effluent, BMG shall design and implement a containment system o return
all effluent to the tailings impoundment, in order to prevent mpact to
the environment.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to repair of the primary! liner if
a leak is detected in letter of April i6,--II,1992.
