Last, we acknowledge the potential change in land use as a site for the National Deep
Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). Securing the construction
of this prominent national laboratory would be to create a benefit to Grand County and
would be an appropriate adaptive reuse of the current mining operation. Any new
construction associated with DUSEL would require compliance with the Grand County
Zoning Regulations and the Grand County Building Code.
We appreciate the opportunity to comment on the request by Climax Molybdenum
Company's plan to amend the Lining and Reclamation Permit (M-T7-324). We believe
that the proposed is consistent with the goals of the Grand County Master Plan.
The possible future land use as part of the DUSEL project would be in the best interest
of the citizens of unincorporated Grand County. If you have further questions on the
issues raised, please.contact.Debra_Campbell with the_Grand County_Department of
Planning and Zoning at 970/725-3347• Thank You.
Warm Regards,
Debra Campbell, P.E. °~
Director, Department of Planning and Zoning
Cc: Board of County Commissioners
County Manager
Bryce Rowing, Climax Molybdenum Company, Henderson Operations
2
