EcoFirst® PIPE SPECIFICATIONS
Scope
This spedflcation describes 4- through 30-inoh (100 to 750 mm) EcoF'ICSt pipe for use in gravity flgw drainage
appUcatlons.
Pipe Requirements
EcoFlrst pipe shall have a smooth interior end annular exterior corrugations.
• 4 through 10-inch (100 to 250 mm) shall meet structural requirements of AASHTO M252, Type S.
• 1Z-through 30-inch (300 to 750 mm) shall meet strudural~requlrements of AASHTO Mz94, Type S.
• Monolog's 'n" value for use in design shall be 0.010 to 0.012.
Joint Peli'ormanee
Pipe shall meet the joint perlannance requirements of AASHTO M252 or M294.
10- through 30-inch (250 to 750 mm) (3ell 8 Spigot gasketed jdnts shall be siltrtight and non-rated
watertight, Gaskets shall be made of polyisoprene meeting 01a I'aqulroments of ASTM F477 with the addition
that the gaskets shall nvt have any vismle cracking when tested according tD ASTM D1149 after 72-hour
exposure in 50 PPHM ozone at 104° Fahrenheit (40°C). Gaskets shall be installed by the pipe manufadurer
and covered with a removable wrap to ensuro the gasket is free from debris, A joint lubricant available from
the manufacturer shall be used on the gasket and bdl during assembly.
4-through 30-inch (100 to 700 mm) Plain End Plpe shall be Joined with extema! couplers, yr coupling bands
covering at least two Fuii ~nugations on each errd of the pipe. Standard (non-gaskated) conneatiars she!! --
meet the soil-tightness requirements of the AASHTp Standard Specification for Highway Bridges, Section 28,
paragraph 26.4,2.4(e).
Material Properties
• Pipe and fitting malarial used to produce 4 through 8-ine!) (100 to Z00 mm) diameters ~1all be high density ~
polyethylene meeting ASTM D3350 minimum cell dASdflcatlon 324420C, The material formWatlon shall be
not less than 509'° recycled polyettrylene.
• Pipe & frttittg materiel used to produce 12-through 30-inch (300 to 750 mm) diameters shall be high density
polyethylene meatirlp ASTM D3350 minimum Doll dassitication of 3354000. The material formulation shall be
not less than 509'° reeyded polyethylene,
o The recycled resin far 12-through 30-inch (300 to 750 mm) pipe production shall he tested for slow
crack growth reaistanee using the notched constant tensile load (SP-NCTL) test according to th9
procedure desen'bed In AASMTO M294, Section 9.5. Average failure time of the five test specimens
shall not be less than 18 hours for pigmented resins or Z4 haute far equivalent ncn-pigmented resins.

Installation
Installation simll be In accordance with ASTM D2321 with the exception that minimum cover Ih trafficked areas
shall be one foot (0.3 m).
