• 2. Hazardous materials (cleaners, grease, oil, diesel, etc.) will be stored in the area
referred to as the "Pad" on maps C and C-2. A temporary shed (12'X20' on
skids) with alean-to extension will be used for small containers. A trailer may
also be used, if additional storage is needed. A berm will be constructed down
gradient from this storage. Absorbent materials (such asfloor-dry and pillows}
will be kept on site. Spills will be cleaned-up immediately. The diesel fuel tank(s)
will be placed in a bermed area with a liner of sufficient size to hold 110% of the
entire volume of the tank(s) should there be a spill or leak and leaving a 10%
reserve to accommodate rainfall. A Hazard Communication Program, as required
by MSHA, will be implemented, which includes training. Also, a MSDS list of
all hazardous materials will be maintained at the mine site.
3. No new portals will be built. The existing western portal is of sufficient size to
accommodate the equipment to be used in the underground mining. It currently is
8 ft wide by 9 ft high. It is expected that the eastern portal will be used only for
ventilation and as a second exit. Both portals will only be altered, as necessary, to
provide safe ground support by barring-down or rock bolting,
The access ramp to the portals was mentioned in Exhibit D, Surface Facilities, 1)
of the Amendment. Construction of the ramp through the sandstone cliff will be
by drilling and blasting. Broken material will be pulled up hill to be used as fill to
gain the elevation needed to reach the county road near the west end of the Pad
area. The road and ramp will be wide enough for the underground mining
• equipment, with the appropriate berms.
The planned ventilation hole (and any future holes) will be round, 60 inch
diameter, or smaller. A pilot hole, about 12 inches diameter, will be drilled
vertically from the surface into the existing stope, about 295 ft below. The hole
will then be up-reamed at the desired diameter, with the cuttings falling into the
stope, being handled as waste rock. This drilling may be by either atruck-
mounted rig, needing no surface preparation, or by a raise-bore machine, which
could require a small concrete pad at the hole collar. The fan will be placed on
the concrete pad, or on a frame constructed of steel, if concrete is not needed. All
required guards will be kept in place on the fan. Some surface casing will be
installed, if needed. A power pole, or poles, will be located in the 0.12 acres
permitted for the ventilation hole. This will hold a transformer, meter, and
switchgear. The electrical wire from the pole to the fan will be buried.
u
