' "New ground water monitoring stations down
gradient of the tailings pond area, as required and
' approved by t/re MLRD, s/rall be sa»rpled bi-
rveekly. "
' hems (IJ through (4J in this section should be mnended to occount for this
amended language.
' RESPONSE: BMR does not agree that (tern (5) at the top of Page 3 is at odds with Item (1)
on Page 2. What these two items state is that specific monitoring stations will be
sampled on a bi-weekly basis and will also be included in the quArterly sampling
t with the other monitoring wells and surface water stations.
BMR does agree that surface water monitoring stations RS-5 and RS-6 should be
' monitored on a bi-weekly basis, however, BMR does not believe it is necessary
to monitor RS-4 on a bi-weekly basis (see Response to Harry Posey's Comment
No. 2 above).
Likewise, BMR believes that ground water monitoring stations M-2, M-6, M-7,
M-8 and M-9 should be monitored bi-weekly; however, BMR Qoes not believe
' that monitoring wells M-4 and M-10 should be monitored bi-weekly (see
Response to Harry Posey's Comment No. 2 above).
' BMR also agrees that additional monitoring wells drat will be installed
downgradient of the tailings facility as part of the modifications to the ground
' water monitoring plan (Technical Revision 008) will be sampled on a bi-weekly
basis.
' S. Page 5 + Section 2 (inclusiveJ. BMG should reconsider the propasnl to rinse all
sampling equipment widr tap water and provide the Division cviddncc that nc~ top
water at San Luis, which is essentially groundwater, has n chemical composition
similar enough to that of nc~ processed water and to local surydce water that
' concentrations of evaporated salts otr the sampling equipnrenr will not affect/ any
of the arra[yses significatrtly.
RESPONSE: Sample collection equipment is intially rinsed with tap water and followed with
final rinse with deionized water provided by the BMR on-site laboratory. BMR
' will revise the protocol document to reflect the actual procedure that is being used
for decontamination procedures.
' 6. Page 7 + Second Full Paragraph. /t is well known that agitation. of samples
containing CN " , in nc~ presence of COZ, will cause CN " to volgrilize.
' -8-
