MEMORANDUM
T0: Alana Scott, BMRI pctober 29,1993
FROM: John DeAngelis, SRK
RE: DISCHARGE OF WATER OVER LINER SUBGRADE MAT~RIAL ON 9/30/93
AND 10/01/93
On 9/30/93, during preparation of the liner s bgrade material
near acres 46/47 beneath the tailings delivery di ch, a discharge
occurred which saturated prepared liner subgrade material at the
Phase I/Phase II liner tie-in. I was informed b BMRI personnel
that the source of the discharge was a joint on t e pvc pipe line
which runs from BMRI's pit to the tailings dispos 1 area.
On 10/01/93, following re-working of the saturat d areas beneath
the delivery line and at the tie-in, an ther discharge
(referenced in MLRD observations dated 10/15/93) ccurred in this
area. Once again, isolated areas beneath the del very lines and
at the tie-in became saturated, delaying dep oyment of the
synthetic liner. I was not aware of the actua source of the
discharge which occurred on 10/01/93.
My concerns expressed to MLRD representatives r~garding both of
these occurrences were in reference to saturation of the subgrade
material.

John A.
