<br />• iii iiiiiii~iiiii iii • <br />BATTLE MOUNTAIN RESOURCES, INC. <br />October 29, 1993 <br />Mr. Larry Oehler <br />Division of Minerals and Geology <br />1313 Sherman Street, Room 215 <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />Re: Battle Mountain Resources, Inc <br />DMG Permit No. M-88-112 <br />Dear Mr. Oehler: <br />di? :' ~ 199;1 <br />iiLE MOUNWN <br />D COMPANY <br />(BMRI) - San Luis <br />This letter is written in response to corrective act on <br />items 2 and 4 of the inspection report for the Septe>~Iber <br />30 - October 1, 1993 site visit by the Division. <br />Item 2 states: <br />"A spill of process water occurred outside of t~e lined <br />containment facility October 1, 1993 as a resul, of <br />failure to take proper precautions. <br />Implement your permit approved spill response plan. <br />Submit a report on the spill and your response. <br />Include measures that will be taken to prevent this <br />type of spill from happening in the future." <br />Section 9.3 of the approved Emergency Response Plan tates: <br />"Small incidental controllable spills that do not po e a <br />human health or environmental hazard shall be remedie <br />immediately by trained mine personnel." As the Division <br />witnessed, response to the overflow situation was i diate. <br />Also, in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan, BMRI <br />submitted a letter dated October 12, 1993 to the Division <br />fully explaining the circumstances of the overflow ev nt, <br />the response, and the pre-cautions taken against Simi ar <br />situations in the future. BMRI submitted a second le ter <br />dated October 26, 1993 to the Division with additional <br />analytical reports on soil samples. <br />Item 4 states: <br />"An engineering technician (John) of SRK stated hat <br />spills similar to the one on 10/1/93 had occurre . <br />Please provide a report to the Division on the sills <br />referred to above. This can be done in conjunct on <br />with your response to item two." <br />We are unaware of any similar spills.
