Operational Losses
The moisture content of the material hauled off the site was assumed to be 4 ercent by weight.
The annual yield for the pit was estimated at 100,000 tons of raw material. s results in an
annual consumptive use of 2.94 acre-feet for wager retained in product.
The total annual consumptive use for dust control was calculated at 2.0 acre/ et. The annual
amount was distributed throughout the year based on the production of the m ning operation.
The mine will beat the highest production during;the months of May-Septem r and in
combination with the weather this period will require the greatest amount of ust control. The
mine will be in production year around and therefore dust control may be req fired during all
months. The monthly distribution of the water reserved for dust control is pr. ented in Table
No. 2.
STREAM DEPLETIONS
An analysis was completed to determine the historical consumptive use associ ted with the
Challenger property. The analysis was also used to determine the historical s surface return
flows that accrued to the stream system during the historical irrigation practice and compare
those to the stream depletions associated with the mining operation. Table No 3 and Table No.
4 have been provided to illustrate the results of the models and the associated t ing of the
required replacements.
Historical Stream Depletions
The Challenger property was historically irrigated with 20 shares of the Hill & rush Ditch. The
total acreage historically irrigated with the Hill &Brush shares is approximate] 61.5 acres.
Figure 2 illustrates the historically irrigated acreage and the portion that is pres ntly under
irrigation. The total acreage removed from agricultural production is approxim tely 34 acres.
The property was used to grow a combination of com, alfalfa, and pasture gms A previous
Substitute Water Supply Plan submitted in July 1990 quantified the historic cro ping patterns as
33%com, 33%alfalfa, and 33%pasture grass. This previous plan was also util zed for
quantifying and locating the historically irrigated acreage. The previously app ved plan is
included in Appendix A for your reference.
A Modified Blaney-Criddle consumptive use analysis was completed for a crop tation of corn
(33%), alfalfa(33%),and pasture grass(33%). Thee analysis yielded a potential rop
consumptive use of 1.63 acre-ft/acre. Table No. 5 is a summary of the potential rop
consumptive use analysis. A detailed analysis for the historic crop rotation is in luded in
Appendix B for your review.
6
