6. Post-Reclamation Site Drainage
• The entire permit azea will drain to the souWwest after reclamation, as shown on Map F. This is
identical to its original direction. Runoff will move to the southeast using sheet flow on the reclaimed
azea although certain azeas will concentrate the flow in drainage channels. Water from the Columbia
Ditch (using Trust water rights) may continue to be used to provide water to the lakes as shown on
Map F.
7. Weed Control
The Trust and its operators will take measures to ensure that the reclaimed land is free of weed
infestations. Problem weeds will be monitored closely each spring for [he first two years after
reclamation to determine if they aze invading the azea. Weed wntrol will be initiated if the problem
becomes serious. The Division will be consulted regarding any weed infestation azea and any control
measures prior to their initiation. It may be necessary to wntrol weeds by mowing after the first yeaz;
the feasibility of chemical weed control methods will be studied should it be necessary. The plan
5 does not contemplate total weed removal on the property. Past experience shows that some initial
r
weed cover in the first yeaz following retopsoiling is beneficial to the reclamation effort in non-
irrigated azeas. Weeds tend to provide shade for new grasses, aze a means of holding snow on the
seedbed longer and protect it from wind and water erosion until the planted species have taken hold.
8, RevePetation Success Criteria
Since most of the azea contains pre-law disturbance without topsoil salvage, it is suggested that
revegetation on the reclaimed area should be deemed successful when the perennial vegetation in this
azea is self-sustaining and adequate to wntrol erosion. The topsoil replacement procedures and the
revegetation plan outlined earlier should be more than adequate to achieve [his goal. The majority of
the site has been reclaimed using standard procedures for restoring rangeland use although the true
post-mining land use is commercial, open space and residential.
Alma Placer 7/03 51
