UNITED COMPANIES
Spring Creek Pit
M-1994-097
AM-002
New Access Road
November 4, 2002
RECE~ VED
NOV 0 7 ZOp~
~iuision of Minerals and GeoloBY
United Companies is applying to amend this Mining and Reclamation Permit to add a
new road for access to the operating area of this gravel pit near Montrose, Colorado.
The access road that was originally proposed and approved with this permit exited from
the site to the west where it joined 6100 Road. The original access road and 6100 Road
are both gravel surfaced roads. 6100 Road was used by all vehicles travelling between the
original Spring Creek Pit access road and La Salle Road (paved). Numerous complaints
were generated by the amount of traffic travelling on 6100 Road.
In response, United Companies proposed to Montrose County officials to construct a new
paved access road that would eliminate all Spring Creek Pit traffic on 6100 Road. This
plan was accepted by the County Commissioners (Special Use permit SU-99-1154). As a
result 18 houses on 6100 Road and on La Salle Road west of the new access road have
much less traffic as a result of the new access road. This has improved safety for the
homeowners and reduced the nuisance impacts of the Spring Creek Pit traffic on them, as
well.
Information concerning this proposed Amendment will be presented in a format that
follows the outline of Exhibit Requirements as presented in Rule 6.4 of the Construction
Materials Rules and Regulations.
Exhibit A -Legal Description
A parcel of land located in Ell2, SW 1l4, Section 13, T49N, RIOW, NMPM, Montrose
County, Colorado.
This parcel is also designated as Montrose County parcel number 3765-133-00-002.
Exhibit B -Index Map
An Index Map of the area is attached.
Exhibit C -Pre-Mining and Mining Plan Map of Affected Lands
A plan map showing the new access road at the Spring Creek Pit is attached.
Exhibit D Mining Plan
The proposed amendment is for the purpose of adding a new paved access road to this
permit area. The previously approved Mining Plan will not be changed by this
proposed amendment.
