G.M. NAGEL ~ CC~ULTING E_I
6TRULTURAL ENGINEERING
FACILITY ENGINEERING
PROJELT REYIE WS AND PROPERTY REPORTS
April 10, 1709
Mr. Bruce ii~l~-ie~
Mined Land ~ c ama ion Doard
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 00203
MEMBER AMERICAN SOLIE fY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS
MEMBER AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MI.LNANICAL EHGIN EERS
MEMBER INTERNATIONAL LONFERENCE OF BUILDING OFFICIALS
ite: Ifaulage Road, Castle Concrete Company, Snytler Quarry, Permit u ht 77-210
Dear Mr. ItuT:rphries
Last year at this time during discussions uvitli Camille Farrell, I voiced a
concern of the housekeeping of the ITaulage road of the above referenced
quarry. I also addressed the concern to Castle Concrete through their
attorney, a copy of that correspondence is attached. My concerns are these;
1. Visually the stock piled material is objectionable to residents of
the adjoining residential subdivision.
2. The material with time cascades down the hillside, covering the
native vegetation, and stagnating future plant growth.
3. Loss of the natural hillside vegetation promotes erosion, danlayes tl~e
natural watershed, causes an increase in flowrates and quantities of
surface drainage into the downstream drainage vaays of other property
owners.
My questions to you and to the ,lined Land Reclamation Division are these;
1. What types of permitted activities are allovaed along this haulage
road?
2. Is the stock piling of material or wasting of karst material
down the hillsides permitted in this area?
3. At the time of reclamation what cJill be the minimal reyuirement.s of
the mine operator for removal of the cascaded debris and reseeding
of the hillside?
4. Is it not in the interest of tliu mine operator to damage as lil.tle of
hillside as possible in order to limit tlTe cost of future
reclamation?
5. What will be the methods of the division in investigating these
concerns and within what time table?
I would gladly meet vaith you or your representation near the site to shove
ypu what is visible from tlTe adjoining properties. SlTOUld you like to
arrange a meeting I can be reached at (717) 577-9777. I look forclard to your
responses at your earliest convenience.
Enclosures
Majestic Building
7 East Bijou, Suite 214
Sincerely,
-V ~~''`'`~ ~ 'f
Gregory M.
