The method of operations at the Somerset/Sanbom Creek Mine became an
issue in February 1994 when it was ascertained that SMC's compliance with the rules and
regulations governing coal mining in Colorado was lacking.
Subsequent to meetings between the Division and SMC and commitments made by SMC to
ensure compliance with these rules and regulations, the Division has decided not to issue
SMC a "Show Cause Order". SMC may continue to operate if they do so in accordance
with their proposed compliance plan.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Steve S.
