bench, shall be delayed until completion of all the remaining Stage 4 extraction and removal of
equipment and products. Reclamation rip-loosening and topsoiling of the finished pit floor area
shall be delayed until completion of all mining stages (through the fifth bench of Stage 4), in order
to utilize the flat space for processing and stockpiling operations and for continued mining to the
final base elevation of 7,280 feet M.S.L.
TIMEFRAME s...-I.u
Mining is expected to resume upon approval of the Ouray County Conditional Use Permit, expected
sometime in the early spring of the yeaz, 2003. Extraction is expected to continue intermittantly, and active
operatons may be less than 180 days per year, depending upon azea demand for County construction
projects material. B.L.M. seasonal requirements restrict operations from November through May each year
for wildlife habitat protection. The mine shall be closed and the site reclaimed upon total depletion of
the gravel resources within the designated extraction area of the permit.
GRAVEL RESOURCES ir_rel
The gravel resource to be mined is composed of rounded river-deposited alluvial sand and gravels. Beds or
lenses of lean clays aze found randomly layered within the river-deposited sand & gavel deposits. Prior
mining excavations in the massive gravel deposit have shown recoverable depths i ... ~ lai of gravel resoures
from the ridge top at elevation 7760 feet M.S.L. tiA well below the lower site elevations of azound 7300 feet.
Total depth of the alluvial gravel deposits have not been determined below those previously mined to
approximately 30 to 40-foot vertical depths on the sloping flank of the ridge. Continued mining shall be to
the designed footprint for a flat bench encircled by benched sideslopes up the flank of the ridge. The
underlying material is weathered . _.r m 1 shale of the Morrison formation, albeit at some unknown depth
below the lowest level of planned extraction operations. Sand and gravel resources r..9t are to be mined and
processed to produce rock aggregate for construction materials. No secondary nor incidental products i.. ~1
are anticipated, except that recovered clay lens materials have been determined from tested soil samples to
be suitable and shall be utilized as plant growth medium for reclamation re-vegetation.
No refuse, nor acid, nor toxic producing materials aze involved in the proposed operations.
File: E 1 OurayCo 1 DaOasGrav 1112AmentlAppl 18
0727N3
