Oehler ~~~ <br />RE: Status and Progress Report, Battle Mountain Ggld, April 23, <br />1992 Violation, Board Ordered Abatement Plan, San Luis <br />Project, File No. M-88-112 <br />The following status and progress report is for the period December 7, <br />1992 through February 23, 1993. <br />1. Increased Tailings Area Security: <br />Status: Cumpieteu. <br />Progress: The Division gave verbal and written ap~roval <br />January 8 and 11, 1993 respectively for discontinu nce of <br />increased tailings area security, with two conditigns. <br />1. Resume security and notify Division immediately if pH <br />exceeds 9.0 and/or WAD CN exceeds 10 ppm. <br />2. BMG will continue to use hydrogen peroxide or other <br />approved collection pond treatment until effl>rient discharge <br />from tailings dam reaches permit standards. <br />2. Assessment of Environmental Impact: <br />Status: Satisfied. <br />3. Accelerated Freouency of Environmental Monitoring: <br />Status: Satisfied. <br />Progress: BMG is now monitoring in accordance with approved <br />Technical Revision Nos. 6 and 10. <br />4. Tailings Cyanide Detoxification: <br />Status: Ongoing. In compliance with all Board Orders and the <br />permit in regard to tailings pond water and collection pond water <br />cyanide concentrations. The effluent from the tai~.ings still <br />requires additional treatment to achieve permit compliance, and <br />the tailings in place prior to compliance require detoxification. <br />Progress: BMG is detoxifying their plant tailings, slurry using <br />the INCO cyanide destruction circuit which began to function <br />properly approximately November 15, 1992. <br /> <br />
