~~
u

detail the method to be employed for plugging the ventilation
shafts.
E.11. Comment:
Please justify the following statement, "Construction of
auxiliary surface facilities has not disturbed topsoil to date,
although some topsoil has been recovered from an area immediately
adjacent to the east waste pile."
Cotter Response
Referring to Exhibit I and Appendix E-3, there is very
little salvagable topsoil at the mine site. Pdost surf~sce
facilities either were completed prior to the regulato:.y
requirement for topsoil salvage (i.e. mid-1950's), or were
constructed on steep slopes where topsoil did not exist.
E.12. Comment:
How many cubic yards of topsoil have been stripped from
this mine site prior to construction or placement of waste
rock on the dump site? Where has the topsoil been sto~~kpiled?
Cotter Response
Approximately 200 cubic yards of topsoil have bee:z
salvaged from the site. This material is being stockpiled
temporarily on top of the east waste dump. This soil will
be moved to a permanent stockpile in the summer of 1983
and seeded using the mix described in Table E-1.
E.13. Comment:
Topsoil to be stockpiled for a period of time gre•ster
than 1 growing season should have a grass cover crop planted
to reduce wind and water erosion.
Cotter Response
Please see Cotter response to MLRD Comment E.12.
-11-
