Exhibit Page 30
Unit 53
Name Hesperus loam, 3 to 6 percent slopes
Description The Hesperus soil is very deep and well drained on alluvial fans, drainage
ways, and benches. Typically, the surface layer is loam about 11 inches thick.
The upper 27 inches of the subsoil is clay loam. The lower 6 inches is light
clay loam. The substratum to a depth of 60 inches or more is loam.
Permeability is moderate. Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting
depth is 60 inches or more. Runoff is medium, and the hazard of water
erosion is moderate. Gully erosion is a severe hazard.
Unit 54
Name Hesperus loam, 6 to 12 percent slopes
Description The Hesperus soil is very deep and well drained on alluvial fans, drainage
ways, and benches. Typically,
the surface layer is loam about 2 inches thick. The upper part of the subsoil is
clay loam about 4 inches thick. The next 16 inches is clay loam. The lower
part is clay about 15 inches thick. The upper 7 inches of the substratum is
clay. The lower part to a depth of 60 inches is clay. Permeability is low.
Available water capacity is high. Effective rooting depth is 60 inches or more.
Runoff is medium to rapid, and the hazard of water erosion is moderate to
severe.
Unit 89
Name Pramiss very cobbly loam, 6 to 25 percent slopes, very stony
Description The Pramiss soil is moderately deep and well drained on hillsides and ridges.
Typically, the upper part of the surface layer is very cobbly loam about 3
inches thick with about 3 to 15 percent stones on the surface. The Power part
of the surface layer is clay loam about 5 inches thick. The upper 8 inches of
the subsoil is clay. The lower 6 inches is light reddish brown clay. The
substratum is clay about 9 inches thick over soft, calcareous mudstone and
shale. Permeability of this soil is slow. Available water capacity is low.
Effective rooting depth is 20 to 40 inches. Runoff is rapid, and the hazard of
water erosion is severe. Depth to soft bedrock ranges from 20 to 40 inches.
