Haul and
access roads will be constructed to county specifications as needed for access to the working
faces and work areas, and in accordance with landowner wishes, and will remain after mining
and reclamation.
PREVIOUS SITE DEVELOPMENT:
Map C-2 shows those areas that have previously been mined, and their current status. It also
shows roadways and other features.
TABLE D-1. SUMMARY OF AFFECTED LANDS FOR LIFE OF MINE
Activity Period Impacted Maximum
Acres Remarks
Mined prior to amendment 1986 to 2002 107.63
Affected prior to amendment 19$6 to 2002 31.80 Disturbed but not mined
Mining planned 2002 to est. 2012 117.91
Affected planned 2002 to est. 2012 50.53 To be disturbed but not mined
Total 307.87
Affected lands include stockpile areas, berms, areas to be backfilled with overburden, and
areas in buffer zones where sand and gravel are not actually mined. Mining area is assuming
that all areas will be mined; however, some areas may not be mined due to excessive
overburden or poor quality of material.
STOCKPILE CONSTRUCTION:
TOPSOIL: Topsoil will be stockpiled immediately after stripping, unless immediately spread on
areas being reclaimed. Stockpiles will either be berms (generally 10-20 feet wide and 2-5
feet high) used for storm water control, or in large stockpiles of varying sizes, of which
several already exist on site. The berms and stockpiles will have a maximum slope of 1:1,
and will be prepared (including stabilization against erosion), seeded, and mulched as they
are completed. As stripping will generally be done in late summer or early fall, immediately
prior to mining, seeding would be done in the fall, as recommended by NRCS.
"EXCESS": Fines from screening will also either be backfilled immediately in reclamation
areas, or be stockpiled in the same manner as topsoil, though seeding may be done in the
spring if stockpiled too late in the fall to meet NRCS recommendations. These fines will be
able to be Treated and used as subsoil and backfill, for reclamation.
' RAW AND PROCESSED MATERIALS: Stockpiles of raw and processed materials will be
located in the work areas, and located in such way as to provide wind screens for plants
and other stockpiles. Stockpiles will not be watered.
Because stockpiles will be used only when it is not feasible to immediately backfill and replace
topsoil in areas which have been mined, specific topsoil and overburden stockpiles, sizes, and
locations are not shown in this plan.
SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT:
Temporary structures will be constructed on the floor of the pit and in stripped areas to divert
' water from active mining areas and to reclamation and long-term stockpile areas, or to a
discharge point, As much as possible, runoff will be directed to central basins where the water
will pond and be available for future livestock use. As much as possible, all drainage will be
