Increased Tailings Area Security: <br />Status: Tailings area security continues. <br />2. Assessment of Environmental Impact: <br />Status: Satisfied. <br />3. Accelerated Frequency of Environmental Monitoring: <br />Status: Satisfied. <br />Progress: BMG is now monitoring in accordance with $pproved <br />permit Technical Revision No. 6. <br />4. Tailings Cyanide Detoxification: <br />Status: Ongoing - in compliance with Board Order. <br />Progress: BMG is detoxifying their waste stream usi>~g the INCO <br />Cyanide Destruction Circuit which became operationa October 21, <br />1992. <br />BMG in-house analyses show WAD cyanide to be less than 1 ppm in <br />the active tailings pond for the period November 22-28, 1992. <br />BMG is treating the collection pond with hydrogen peroxide and <br />for the period November 22-28, 1992 their in-house analyses show <br />WAD cyanide levels ranging from 0.1 to 5.4 ppm. <br />The Division has not vet received results of indeoehdent <br />laboratory or third party analyses of monitoring samples since <br />the INCO circuit became fully operational and the collection pond <br />hydrogen peroxide treatment started. Third party sampling <br />occurred on November 23-24, 1992. <br />
