1630 Acre Permit Revision
Response to Adequacy Comments
B L M
The following responses are in reference to a letter received by
West Elk Coal Company from the Bureau of Land Management,
Montrose District Office. Response numbers correspond to
adequacy question numbers specified in the letter.
1. The limit of predicted bad ground has not been defined
extensively by West Elk Coal Company. The area shown as
predicted bad ground was defined preliminarily by drill
hole information and geologic mapping. This limit is
subject to change based on actual information obtained as
we mine the area. Coal resources will be recovered to the
maximum extent possible based on the ground conditions.
Panels will be lengthened or shortened as conditions ~
dictate.
Dur records indicate that the block of coal in the Nf4, NEK
of Section 20 was not shown as being mined in the original
permit (Exhibit 3.4.4B), but was subsequently added in the
permit revision dated March 1, 1983, titled Main Entry
Relocation and also subsequent adequacy responses dated
June 1, 1983 (Exhibit 3.4.4.A revised) which was reviewed
by OSM, BI.M, Q~ALRD, etc. and approved.
The coal in Section 17 is in the process of being assigned
to Bear Coal Company, however, the mine plans and maps
submitted in the 1630 Acre Permit Revision do not reflect
this since the permit revision was applied for before the
Bear assignment took place,
4. There is no current requirement to prevent mining of the
panels south of the No. 1 East Submains before subsidence
data is obtained from panel 1W-1S off the No. 1 West
Submains. The requirements for mining panels south of the
No. 1 East Submains are the same as the requirements for,
mining panels off the No. 1 West Submains since both areas.
are north of the Minnesota Creek drainage basin divide.
DPC/jm
5-22-85
