ExN181T E
RECLAMATION PLAN (CONT)
„~~ nnaxc zooz
Amendment # 5 - NORTN SLOPE AREA
The new north slope area will be reclaimed using the methods
of resoiling and reseeding currently approved. This will be a
predominately south facing slope so the methods described in the
original application for that type of slope will be used. Only
the number of trees planted is changed. In the existing plan for
south facing areas the plan calls for Rocky Mountain Juniper to
be planted 20 to 40 feet apart to help screen the vertical faces.
This is practical on mine benches but on large open areas it is
cost prohibitive and would create an unnatural looking picket
fence appearance on the reclaimed area. The change only affects
the 3h to lv slopes on the north side on the mine. The proposed
change for this slope area involves planting groups of 5 to 10
Rocky Mountain Juniper trees in scattered clumps on the slope, in
an attempt to match the natural conditions. This will be incor-
porated into the concurrent reclamation as mining progresses
across the mine.
As noted in the mining platt, filling of the benches created
in this area will leave a slope that is 3h to lv and will match
the upper parts of the mountain above the site. The cross
sections on Figure D-1, page 11 shows how the benches would look
during mining. The cross hatched area is the fill that will be
placed to create a uniform 3h to lv slope. if at any time there
is not enough fill to create the slope, mining will switch so no
benches are mined and the slope will be mined 3h to 1 to match
what is shown on the map.
Once mining ends on a section of north slope backfilling
will begin. No more that 1000 feet of open face mine/benches
will be open on this side of the mine. Since mining will prog-
ress from west to east in this area, the western 500 feet will be
undergoing reclamation as the eastern 500 feet is being mined and
17 (Revised 8/19/02)
