We have the following comments and
concerns..
Numerous wildlife species use this azea, at least occasionally. Some of these species are: moose, elk,
mule deer, bighorn sheep, black bear, mountain lion, bobcat, coyote, fox, raccoon, skunk, badger, mink,
cottontail, jackrabbits, snowshoe hares and numerous smaller mammals. The same is true for avian
species such as: eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, geese, ducks, and numerous other species of both resident
and migratory birds. There are also numerous aquatic species found in the Middle Fork of the South
Platte River.
We are encouraged to see that the applicant "plans to work with the local office of the CROW to discuss
any ways that the final site could be enhanced for wildlife. With willing landowners, wildlife habitat can
be protected and preserved. If contiguous comdors can be ieR undisturbed, wildlife will benefit. The
CROW will be happy to assist the Trust however we can.
Some areas of concern are weed control, revegetation, and maintenance of the settling ponds. If these
areas are adequately addressed, impacts can be kept to a minimum.
We would encourage the "Trust" to differentiate between noxious weeds and other plants they have
identified as weeds. Noxious weeds should be controlled immediately. Mowing of weeds should be
done pre-flower to help prevent their spread.
RECEIVED
APR O 7 2004
Divbisn of Minerelr & Gwlapy
~~ I~
`°v°'y°o
~''!~~
`~OF~
For l~ldlah-
Far Ptopk
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESWRCES, Russell Geape, E>cedfive Direaor
WILDLIFE COMMISSION, Ph91p Jartler, Chadr • Jelriey Crawford, Vida-Chair • l~ Phelps, Secretary
Members, Bertrerid 131adc • Tam Burke • Rkk Erstrorn • Claire O'Nea! • Rabat Shoemaker • Ken Tomes
Fx Olfiao Members, Rus.SeA George and Don ArnerN
