INSPECTION REPORT
Page 2
addition, more riprap or a concrete apron might be needed on both of
the inflows. Maintenance schedules for completion were set.
The reclaimed Rex Carbon pad was checked for erosion, there was none
noted.
A puma track and abundant deer sign was noted in the diversion above
the pad area.
The haul road in between the pads was walked. The bar ditches on
both sides were stable but they need check dams to reduce flow which
in turn will eliminate future maintenance. I also suggested that
water bars be put in on the road to prevent erosion.
The upper slopes on the Shamrock pad were walked for erosion. The
contour furrows were holding, no problems noted. The western ditch
around the perimeter of the area needs to have check points installed
to reduce flows through the system. In addition, a turning point for
the bottom end of the ditch is in need of reinforcement. Mss Begej
concurred and set a maintenance schedule. One of the suggestions for
maintenance, again included brush checks or straw bale dikes in the
ditch.
The pond cleanings for the west pond on the Shamrock pad were seeded
earlier in the year but there was little or no success. Mss Begej
requested that it be done again and suggested scarificaction to
further enhance the possibility of growth. The clear water diversion
outlet above the eastern pond needs beefing up also.
Record review was conducted at the Curby residence. The mining
permit expires November 8, 1993. The original as built
certifications for the ponds were dated December 7, 1989. Updates to
those certificattons were done August 22, 1984. The NPDES permit for
the mine expires June 20, 1992. Third quarter self pond inspection
reports were completed July 2, 1991. The certificate of public
liability insurance carried through the American States Insurance
expires July 15, 1992.
