The earth berm north ofthe Sanchez parcel does not exist currently but will be
placed when mining operations begin. The berm will be constructed of overburden
material and seeded with the approved seed mix described in Exhibit E.
The slope contours shown on the south and east sides of the mined area are "after
mining" and do not presently exist. On the southwest side of the proposed amended area,
the slope contours on the map terminate abruptly because the adjacent landowner,
L. O. Griffith, will mine his property to the property line at the same elevation and slope
that Pazkerson will mine on its side.
In the northeast part of the proposed expanded area, the river bluff is nearly
vertical. The slope contours on the Reclamation Map tie into the contours shown above
the river. A revised map will clarify contours in this area.
Topsoil and overburden stockpiles will not be placed within the 30 fort-wide buffer
zone, except for the Sanchez parcel berm. Overburden and topsoil will remain on the pit
floor, in a convenient but protected location away from mining, crushing and hauling
operations. The large overburden stockpile shown on the Mining Map in the northeast
part of the original permit area will not be moved until final reclamation. Some
overburden from the future stripping will be placed there. Product stockpiles will be
maintained on the pit floor, behind mining operations, but will be sold and removed before
reclamation begins.
On the Exhibits C and F maps the overhead power lines on the south side of C
Road are owned by Grand Valley Rural Power Lines, whose mailing address is 2727
Grand Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501.
Exhibit D -Mining Plan.
The Exhibit D narrative says the crusher and product stockpiles will follow
"mining operations", which includes mining equipment.
The slope gradient of the active highwall ~~~ll be near vertical during mining except
where finished slopes are encountered; then the slope will be 3H:1 V. The slope gradient
of surfaces where mining has been completed but not reclaimed will be 3H:1 V.
During mining, no more than 40 acres will be disturbed at one time.
The site access road has been used in the past for hauling. Improvements to the
road were made for farming and river access, in addition to hauling. The .60 acre strip of
paved road was included in the amendment application because 1 believed it was required.
Based on our discussions during the site inspection, I have requested withdrawal of the
60 acre strip from the application.
