January 31, 1985
Mr. Kenny Schrader
Page Three
Please verify your plans to topsoil and seed the north area of the
mine using the SW topsoil stockpile. Please provide an acreage
estimate for this area and your estimated time schedule. The
Division will expect that all areas disturbed under this permit
will be vegetated (preferrable by drilling) according to the S.C.S.
topsoil, seed, and mulch recommendations provided within the permit.
4S Permanent pond areas will obviously not be seeded, however, areas
to be intermittently exposed will require vegetation. Species such
as Western Wheatgrass, Alkali Sacaton, and Smooth Brome should work
in such areas.
5~ Please indicate where the permanent pond areas are expected to
occur and specify the size in acres of the ponds to remain.
~) It is preferable to avoid extensive weed invasion and this should
be minimized by proper seeding. Wildlife and livestock grazing is
not considered a sufficient method for weed. control. Please also
note that if the reclaimed area is to be grazed by domestic
livestock, the permit must reflect this fact. Such grazing should
be avoided or strictly controlled until reclaimed vegetation is
well established.
Please indicate your plans to reclaim mine roads and other
mine-related disturbances.
8~ According to the original permit stipulations, those areas void of
topsoil may require some soil amendments based upon the results of
soil quality tests. Please verify this.
How are the rabbitbush, cottonwoods, and willows (Exhibits E, H,
and iv) going to be established? Does this refer to the vegetation
,I already present?
>`0) The probable timetable for reclamation must be addressed. Please
J give us a reasonable time estimate for your reclamation efforts.
nd,// Exhibit G - Water Resources
Please refer to the enclosed memo from the Divisin of Water Resources
to the Division of Mined Land Reclamation.
Public Notification
1) Please provide a copy of the required (C.R.S. 34-32-112(b})
newspaper proof of publication and landowner and adjacent landowner
notification (C.R.S. 34-32-112(10)(c)).
