The application was copied to al
of the parties. The deadline for commentsiis June
26, 1992. Statutory deadline is July 16, 992.
- Preliminarily, BMG states that the INCO tr atment,
which will be operational in October, 19921, will
achieve compliance with permit tailings quplity
requirements.
- The Division intends to forward technical adequacy
comments to BMG by July 1, 1992.
(5) Leak Detection System Effluent Containment:
In the event that fluid is intercepted by the tailings fluid co lection
pond liner leak detection system, BMG shall design and implemen an
automated system to minimize the development of hydraulic back ressure
within the leak detection system. This system is intended to r duce the
likelihood of compromising the secondary clay liner by intercep ing and
withdrawing leakage.
In the event that Cyanide is detected within the leak detection system
effluent, BMG shall design and implement a containment system t return
all effluent to the tailings impoundment, in order to prevent i~ipact to
the environment.
Status: BMG submitted a written commitment to comply in a lett~r of
April 16, 1992.
