Following approval of {his <br />technical revision, BMG shall implement the treatment method i <br />accordance with the plan. Appropriate frequency and distribut on of <br />monitoring of the tailings and plant circuit shall be proposed within the <br />application and subsequently conducted to verify the progress nd success <br />of the remedial treatment. Monitoring results, covered by an ppropriate <br />cover letter report shall be submitted to the Division weekly uring the <br />detoxification program. <br />While BMG is continuing the CYTOX treatment, it will be permit ed to <br />continue operating the processing plant, including the introdu tion of <br />unprocessed ore, until the projected tailings quality has been achieved. <br />At that point in time BMG will cease operation of the plant pe ding <br />approval to recommence operation by the Division. Monitoring f cyanide <br />levels within the tailings slurry and liquid shall continue to verify the <br />anticipated decay of Free Cyanide levels following the cessati n of the <br />detoxification program, until cessation is approved by the Div Sion. <br />The introduction of chemical compounds into the processing cir uit to <br />affect an immediate remedy of the tailings cyanide problem cou d <br />potentially create additional problems by amending the chemical <br />constituency of the tailings. The Division cautions BMG that it will be <br />held responsible for any unanticipated results of its remedial actions. <br />MLRB Order: The Board issued the Notice of Violation & Order ~n May 28, <br />1992. The Order contained the following: <br />"18. BMRI shall bring the cyanide levels in the tailings <br />slurry and the ponds into compliance with the permit pro isions <br />by no later than June 24, 1992. The Division and BMRI, nd any <br />other party wishing to do so, shall provide the Board wi h a <br />report on detoxification efforts at the Board meeting to be held <br />on June 24 and 25, 1992. At that time, the Board may or er addi- <br />tional corrective actions if the level of cyanide has no been <br />reduced to within the limits specified in the permit." <br />Status: On Goinq - In Compliance <br />April Progress: - BMG submitted TR-004 on April 3, 1992. <br />- The Division approved TR-004 on April 7, 1992 with <br />three stipulations. Stipulation 113, requiring two <br />additional monitoring points, has been sa isfied. <br />May Progress: - BMG continued CYTOX treatment, <br />TR-004 throughout the month of <br />- BMG submitted TR-005, to cease <br />A.V.R. unit, following failure <br />fan unit on April 29, 1992.
