EXHIBIT F. - Reclamation Plan
Future _Use ot_Land, - Lt is our intention to leave this area in a
state that will be improved trom what it is now. The specific
tuture land use will be range land, although there will be other
benetits, such as wildlite hal~itet, etc.
Historic U_s_e__of L_a_nd - Historically, the land r.hat our oVe ration
is located on was used for grazing. The area is extremely
rocky, with mainly rabbit brush, cactus, and very sparse patches
of wheat grass growing.
This land is located at the start of the alluvial tan of [he Rio
Grande River resulting in a tairly thick deposit of sand and
gravel covered with varying depths of topsoil. Hecause, of the
size and quantity of large rocks, it is unsuitable for tarmine.
The area where we are now mining and where our concrete batch
plant sits, is on an oLd gravel bar and is not even ettective
land for grazinR• (rater to mining or reclam. plan map).
The area immediately south and contiguous t.o our existine
excavation has a thicker laver of topsoil, but still ltas numerous
rocks and boulders near, or at the surtace, wl~iclt prohibits anv
ettective tarmine. Several Vears aRO this land was plowed and
planted in altalta, but because of the numerous rocks, r.he crop
could not be harvested effectively. it is now standi.nR idle.
This is the area we are trying to permit for tuture mining.
(refer to mining plan map - abandoned tield 11.5 acresl.
Attar talking to specialists from the Soil Conservation Service,
we believe that this land can be mined, reclaimed. and utilized
to a greater degree than it is now. We will end up with Rood
topsoil once Che large rocks are removed. A moderate sCancl of
hearty grass would enable more livestock to be grazed, thus
utilizing the land. As it stands now, r.here is almost no
utilization.
This land use will be very compatible wi[h the surrounding land.
The adjacent area surrounding our quarter of land is now
primarily used for Brazing, with a small. area used for farming.
Rio Rrande County also has a gravel operation, located on stale
land, 3l4 mile to the west of our opera[ion.
According to the Rio Grande County Raster L'lan, [his land .is an
area designated for "heavy industrial" use, which would allow
just about anv type of activity, trom a "taclorv" to a
"salvage" yard to be located here. We have chosen not to do this
because our operation is allowed under present zoning - (rural),
and we want to be a good neighbor. Also we would like to see a
more natural area here in the tuture, attar we have rec_.Laimed the
land.
7
