Battle Mountain Gold
NOPV Abatement Requirements
page 4

applied by BMG may require significant modification. If BMG determines
it necessary to modify its ore processing methodology, BMG shall submit
appropriate applications to the Division. Appropriate permit
modifications, supported by comprehensive analytical results ar~d design
evaluations, shall be submitted by BMG to the Division for review and
approval no later than 45 days following completion of the cyaniide
detoxification of the tailings areas contents, described in itelm (4)
above.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to the completion of they requested
investigations, the development of an appropriate
detoxification procedure, and the submission of a
summary report in a letter of April 16, 19192.
(8) Modification of Tailings Area Reclamation Plan:
The Division is concerned that the introduction of cyanide into the
tailings area may be indicative of the inclusion of associated metallic
contaminants not originally anticipated in its approved operations and
reclamation plan. BMG's preliminary suspicions of altered metalllic ore
content, and the coincidental failure of the designed processing cyanide
recovery circuit, are additional indications of a modification 'in the
tailings chemical constituency. If the chemical constituency of the
tailings is different than the original projections, the projected
characterization of the tailings as non-toxic and chemically inert is
suspect. Change in the tailings constituency may render the approved
final reclamation plan for the tailings inappropriate.
In light of any information developed by BMG in the course of i!ts
required investigations, analyses and redesign, including any
modification to its processing methodology, BMG shall modify its tailings
area detoxification and reclamation plans appropriately. Appropriate
applications, supported by comprehensive analytical results and design
evaluations, shall be submitted by BMG to the Division for review and
approval no later than 180 days following completion of the cyahide
detoxification of the tailings areas contents, described in iteM (4)
above.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to the completion of the requested
investigations, the submittal of a comprehensive
report, and the submission of appropriate ~ermit
modifications, if necessitated, in a lette of April
16, 1992. The Division originally specified
submittal within 90 days following detoxification,
however, BMG has demonstrated that 180 day will be
required to complete the requested evaluation.
