Gunnison No. 1
Mine, CMLRD Permit No. C-007-80
Dear Susan and Tom:
Per my phone conversation with Susan on May 16, 1986, we would like
to request an extension of one week to abate the portion of NOV C-86-
042 with regard to pumping the Bear No. 1 Sediment Pond. The reason
for this is rainfall which has occurred on May 9, 10, 14, 15, and 16 and
has made the road to the Bear Pond impassable to vehicles and heavy
equipment. We feel that two or three days of sunny weather will dry
the road sufficiently to allow access of pumping equipment. To
alleviate this problem in the future, WECC will submit e minor
revision to the permit to install a dewatering pipe and valve so the
pond will not need to be pumped.
Samples of water from the Bear Pond (t116-5) were taken on Friday,
h1ay 9, 1986 the results were as follows:
pH
Conductivity
Iron
Total Sus. Solids
Total Dis. Solids
7.38 su
3250 umhos/cm
1.48 mg/1
16.0 mg/1
2388 mg/1
These results indicate that the pond is in compliance with NPDES
permit requirements for discharge. We will continue to sample the
pond discharge if any occurs weekly as required by our NPDES permit.
Abatement of NOV's C-86-041, C-86-042, and C-86-043 is complete
with the exception of the Bear Pond (MB-5) and the Lower Refuse Pile
Pond (h16-6 ). The following is the date of abatement and summary of
action taken:
