<br />Battle Mountain Gold <br />1122192 Additional Corrective Action Order <br />Status of Tailings Pond Detoxification Process <br />(Permit No: M-88-112) <br />Updated as of August 25, 1992 <br />In consideration of Battle Mountain Resources' progress in satisfying <br />abatement requirement (4) imposed upon the Notice of Violation issue to <br />Battle Mountain Gold (BMG) on March 31, 1992, the Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />imposed the following additional corrective action on July 22, 1992, as <br />allowed in Paragraph 18 of the May 28, 1992 Board Order. <br />(1) Maintain the WRD cyanide level below 15 ppm in the active tailings pond, <br />and below 10 ppm in the inactive tailings pond. ~, <br />BMRI has demonstrated that the Hydrogen Peroxide tailings treat ent <br />process is capable of reducing the WAD cyanide level to 15 ppm r less in <br />in an active tailings pond, and 10 ppm or less in an inactive t flings <br />pond. BMRI shall continue to add hydrogen peroxide directly to both <br />tailings ponds' liquid pools, at appropriate rates, in order to achieve <br />and maintain these levels. If the WAD cyanide levels exceed th se limits <br />then BMRI must take corrective action. <br />WAD cyanide levels in the active tailings pond have remained below 15 ppm <br />since July 9th. WAD cyanide levels in the inactive tailings po d have <br />remained below 10 ppm since July 9th. I <br />BMRI shall implement the INCO Process as soon as possible, and ring the <br />tailings ponds into compliance as soon as possible thereafter. <br />BMRI shall commence operation of the INCO S02/Air Tailings Trea ment <br />Process as soon after approval as possible, in accordance with he <br />schedule for implementation contained in TR-010. When BMRI com ences <br />operation of the INCO process it shall bring both tailings pond into <br />compliance with the permit standards as soon as possible. <br />TR-010 was approved by the Division on July 31, 1992. BMRI pro ects <br />completion of construction by late-September, and the completion of <br />testing and calibration of the INCO reactor by mid-October, 199 . <br />JP/7P <br />Doc No: 4169E <br />
