The drainage areas and collection ditches are shown
in Figure 3.
Following is a summary of the design calculations performed by Kvaerner Metals, Davy
Nonferrous Division.
Drainage areas around the processing facility
Areas 1 (0.62 acre) and R-1 (0.11 acre) flow into Ditch D-1
Area 2 (3.08 acres) flows into Ditch D-2
Area 3 (0.70 acre) flows into Ditch D-3
Areas 4 (1.83 acres) and R-4 (0.13 acre) flow into Ditch D-4
Area 9 (0.90 acre) flows into Culvert C-1
Ditches D-1, D-2, D-3, and D-4 also flow into Culvert C-1
Culvert C-1 flows into an existing natural drainage
Areas 5 (0.42 acre) and R-5 (0.14 acre) flow into Ditch D-5
Ditch D-5 flows into Culvert C-2
Area 6 (0.46 acre) flows into Ditch D-6
Ditch D-6 flows into Culvert C-3
Area 7 (1.02 acres) flows into Ditch D-7
Culverts C-2 and C-3 flow into Ditch D-7
Ditch D-7 flows into an existing natural drainage
Areas 8 (0.80 acre) and R-8 (0.18 acre) flow into Ditch D-8
Ditch D-8 flows into an existing natural drainage
Design storm frequency = 100 years
Runoff coefficient, C = 0.50, assumed for undeveloped area surrounding the facility
C = 0.95, assumed for outer portion of perimeter access road
Roughness coefficient, n = 0.025 (for unlined ditches constructed in area surrounding
the facility) and n = 0.026 (for culverts)
Summary of Kvaerner Calculations
Piceance Site Divernon Ditch System
Technical Revision Mining and Reclamation Permit
